How long should your presentation be?

We are planning the following session formats:

  • Long talks – 40 minutes in total, broken down to around 30 mins for the talk & 10 mins for questions.
  • Lightning talks – 10-15 minutes each, grouped with related topics.

In what languages can I present?

We accept applications in both English and Finnish.

How are the speakers selected?

The review and selection of the speaker applications is anonymous, but we will take into account your previous speaking experience.

The Call for Speakers will be open until April 28 May 12—make sure that you send in your application in time.

What topic should you apply with?

We welcome a diverse lineup of talented speakers to provide value to our broad audience. We are of course looking for different topics and inspirational stories. If you’re not sure what to talk about and need some ideas, here are topics most asked for in our survey:

  • Accessibility
  • Caching
  • Case studies
  • Community
  • Content (how to write good content, searchable content, etc)
  • Design
  • Devops (server configuration, deployments, etc)
  • E-commerce
  • Entrepreneurship (both agencies and freelancer)
  • Gutenberg
  • Hosting
  • Internationalization
  • Marketing
  • Mental health
  • Open Source
  • Security
  • SEO
  • Site performance
  • Testing (user tests, automated test)
  • UI/UX

If you have a topic you’re passionate about or are an expert in something we haven’t mentioned, don’t hesitate to apply! We will accept applications from all areas of expertise and hope to attract relevant experts from outside the WordPress world.

Tips for Submission

  • Spellcheck, check for placeholder text and use correct capitalization for WordPress and WordCamp.
  • Please submit no more than three proposals. Multiple submissions are definitely not required but will help your chances.
  • Your talk title, description, and a short bio will be copied as-is.
  • The WordCamp AV form is required for speaker submissions. You can check the A/V Release form here. Later in the process, we will ask you to sign and take a picture or scan and send us.

Tips for a Great Speaker Application

  • Use your real, full name (first and last).
  • A clear talk title is better than a clever one—don’t make attendees work to figure out what your talk is about.
  • Enter a detailed presentation description. Descriptions that are vague, unhelpful, or incomplete may not be considered—explain what attendees will learn or get out of the session.
  • Submit your proposed topic title, description, and your bio in the third person, as if it were the final version to be printed or posted on the website.
  • Your talk should be directly related to WordPress, or immediately applicable and relevant to our audience.

Submit a Speaker Application

If you’d like to propose multiple topics, please submit the form multiple times, once for each topic.
