Call for volunteers

Call for volunteers has been closed. Thank you to everyone who has applied!

All WordCamps need volunteers to run the show alongside event organisers to help make them wonderful, accessible and welcoming events.

Everything during a WordCamp – from registration to speaker support – is set up and managed by volunteers.

Why volunteer?

The quality of a WordCamp depends entirely on the people who donate their time to make it happen. Being a volunteer is more than lending a hand, it is the secret sauce that makes a wordcamp a WordCamp!

So what’s in it for you?

  • Volunteering makes you an integral part of the WordPress global project. It is the perfect opportunity to get involved with WordPress, the world’s most popular website Content Management System (CMS). WordPress also has a powerful and growing community, which is empowered, connected, and inspired by WordCamps.
  • You will meet folks from all over Europe and, indeed, the world: fellow volunteers, attendees, speakers, and sponsors. Not only is this a great opportunity for starting or strengthening friendships, but also for networking and developing professional relationships.
  • You will get an exclusive look behind the scenes of organizing the WordCamp in an online format.

You will get a FREE ticket to WordCamp Finland 2020, which grants you access not only to the entire event! Plus, you will become a member of the WCFI family.

What’s the commitment?

Volunteering is vitally important, so we do have some specific guidelines, but we also want you to have fun! Here’s what you can expect:

Time commitment

Don’t worry, you will not be scheduled to work throughout the entire Event. We ask you to commit to a maximum of two hours.

Responsibilities

Specific responsibilities vary by role, and you can indicate which roles you are most interested in on the application form.

Regardless of your role, you will be expected to:

  • Be the friendly face of WCFI and the WordPress project, abiding by the Code of Conduct at all times and working to be as helpful as you can throughout the conference.
  • Perform volunteer duties as assigned.

Volunteer roles

Chat moderators (5 volunteers)

We are looking for chat moderators for the livestream and zoom. Your responsibilities are:

  • To keep the chat, clean at all times, and remove any material that is against the code of conduct.
  • Guide people that are having some technical issues with the livestream. Usually guiding about refreshing the page or updating their browsers.
  • Answering questions that viewers might have about the schedule of the day.

Stage Managers (4 volunteers)

Stage managers are the key thing to get the event going smoothly! Stage managers responsibilities are:

  • Getting to know about the speakers you are going to introduce for the audience beforehand.
  • You can contact the speakers to ask some questions if you prefer to.
  • Making sure that the schedule is being abided and the event runs smoothly.
  • Keeping the speakers informed of their timeslot and that the basic like microphone and webcam are operational (You don’t need to be technical wizard. We have technical people to help with the setup also.)
